New Delhi: United States Ambassador to Poland, Thomas Rose echoed Donald Trump’s push to acquire Greenland, saying that only Americans can ensure that the region is developed safely and responsibly and added a stronger US role will only strengthen the NATO.
In an exclusive conversation with Times Now Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar, Thomas Rose said that what many Europeans miss — though there are exceptions, like Poland, which he proudly represent as the US Ambassador — is that a stronger American role in Greenland will not weaken NATO. It will strengthen it.
“Only America can ensure Greenland is developed safely and responsibly,” he emphasized.
Highlighting the Chinese threat and how it is building the infrastructure and militarizing the arctic region, the US ambassador said, “China now calls itself a “near-Arctic power” and is aggressively pursuing mining, infrastructure, and scientific footholds there. The reasons America needs Greenland are obvious.”
When asked to respond that the US is trying to be colonial, Rose said, “Countries which once colonised much of the world are now accusing us of colonialism for seeking our national security needs on an island that is geographically closer to the US than to Europe.”

Speaking about the strategic importance of Greenland, the US Ambassador said that according to the US Geological Survey, it has identified 50 rare earth minerals critical to US, European, and global security. “Of these, 43 are found at scale in Greenland.”
Mentioning how the Arctic island can be a crucial source of energy, Thomas Rose said, “Greenland has immense hydropower and wind potential, yet today it relies almost entirely on expensive imported diesel. Only America can ensure safe, environmentally responsible development of Greenland’s resources.”
